Former Top Gear Presenter Escapes Car Crash At 220mph

Richard Hammond was involved in another car crash as he plunged a supercar down a hill, flipping several times before coming to a stop and bursting into flames.

Hammond seemed to lose control of the Rimac Concept One electric car on approach of a tight bend during the famous Hemburg time-trial.

His Grand Tour co-stars, Jeremy Clarkson and James May, rushed to the scene to witness his narrow escape as they feared their pal was “dead” by the sound of the explosion.

But they arrived to find the 47-year-old lying on the ground as flames engulfed the vehicle just yards away.

Medics were on the scene to airlift the former Top Gear star to a nearby hospital in Switzerland but the star only suffered a fracture to his knee.

While at the hospital, the first thing he did was call his family to let them know he was alright.

“If Richard had been a few seconds slower getting out, he would have been incinerated.”, the show’s producer speaking to Uk’s the Mirror about incident.

Hammond later posted on the DriveTribe website: “Yes I fell off but yes, I’m fine. Sorry … Thanks for inquiries re my slight shunt whilst filming for GT. I can confirm that yes, I fell off a bike, many times, in fact and yes, I banged my head and everything else. But life goes on.”

The Grand Tour launched in over 200 countries by December 2016 on Amazon Prime.
