DFC: Video Game Industry Forecasts

GABORONE – DFC released its global game industry forecasts. The video game industry is expected to reach record sales of $102 billion, up 8% over 2016. This is in part thanks to the release of new hardware systems from Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony along with continued growth of mobile games and PC games.

DFC Intelligence forecasts expect the Xbox One to reach 63 unit sales by 2021, with 17 million units forecasted to be Xbox One X systems. However, Xbox forecasts are historically known to not meet expectations.

The Xbox One X with its hefty price tag is designed to appeal to a narrow demographic who want high quality graphics but do not want to spend money on a high-end PC. Even with sales of 4K television sets start to soar, the challenge is that it’s a fairly small addressable market.

Nintendo and Sony on the other hand have seen increased sales because they offer a very strong value proposition that consumers seem to be flocking to.
